Points of interest for:
Authors
ISDI can provide you with information regarding dog team travel, then and now. We can also help you with a resource list of historical books and other publications so you can present the accurate descriptions you desire. No matter if you seek help with research, background "color" or first hand experience, ISDI
is ready to assist you with your portrayal of the Inuit Sled Dog and Arctic life. Please don't hesitate to contact us here.
DNA Studies
The INUIT SLED DOG INTERNATIONAL had been or is still collaborating with four DNA research projects, two in the United States and two in Europe. Being an ancient, primitive and largely "unspoiled" breed, the ISD is of great interest to geneticists who are seeking to unravel the mysteries of the origins of canid domestication.
As with any scientific endeavor of this kind, in the pursuit of these goals it is possible that important discoveries may be made specific to our own breed. ISDI continues to maintain lines of communication with all four project leaders so that we may be kept in the loop as to when findings are published or to offer our continued support of their work. ISDI enthusiasts have generously donated their time and dog DNA samples and will continue to provide logistical support for the acquisition of DNA material from ISDs located below the tree line as well as in the Canadian High Arctic and Greenland. ISDI members have also been able to provide DNA from other northern breeds of dogs as well as wolves and coyotes.
Educators
Every year around "Iditarod" time, educators are looking for sled dog related programs for their students. While ISDI is not "into" the racing experience, we can offer insight into what it means to depend on a dog team for your survival. Enlighten your students on how Inuit and their dogs partnered for survival. Have them learn about a vanishing way of life. ISDI may even have an enthusiast in your area to offer an in-school presentation!
Film Makers
ISDI can offer you logistical advice regarding your project. We can hook you up with reliable companies (some based in Arctic Canada as well as Greenland) who can provide most of the on-site support for your needs. Our only goal is to see an accurate portrayal of the Inuit Sled Dog and Arctic life.
Inuit Dog Owners and Potential Owners
ISDI welcomes all ISD owners and potential owners who share our goals for the breed. We offer mentoring for a more one-on-one learning experience.
Museum Curators
In the past ISDI has collaborated with the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre in Yellowknife, NWT, Canada. Perhaps there is something we can help you with, too.
